Bug? Magic sponge/warp into dungeon

PostFri Jun 01, 2012 10:25 am

Not sure if this is a bug, or if I'm missing a key element of the rules.

What dictates when a player can be warped into the dungeon?

When a player is in the dugout, regardless of cause, they can *sometimes* be "sponged" back to reserves, then warped back in the next turn. Other times they are moved back to reserves, but can not be warped back in.

What rules/restrictions apply to this behaviour?

From the original DB rules:
- A coach may teleport one player from the reserves box to the dungeon each turn. In Dungeonbowl a coach may have any number of players in the dungeon at any one time.
- A coach may use the sponge to treat an injured player instead of teleporting a player into the dungeon. If the player was in the KO’d or Stunned box, he is moved into the Reserves box. The sponge has no effect on players that have been seriously injured or killed.

In the most recent game I played, both of these rules were broken. A dead 'wolf was sponged back to life and returned to play, whilst a KO'd lineman was sponged back to the reserves, but could not return to the pitch.

Is Cyanide using different rules?

More experimentation, more detail:
- KO'd and stunned (from falling into pit) can be sponged and returned to play. Right
- Players who take an injury can be sponged and the injury removed. They can then be returned to play. Wrong
- Players who are "Lost in space" can be sponged, but are unable to be returned to play. Half-right
- Players who are injured, then sponged, have that injury (including death) removed including in the roster after the game. Wrong

There is no way to distinguish between a LOS, injured or KO/stunned player once sponged. You can tell the injured players in the dugout by clicking on them and checking the player info. You will see the injury in red. But once you use the magic sponge on them, that is all removed.

The ability for coaches to continually heal and return players to the pitch can quickly change the balance of the game, particularly if the other player has lost several to LOS, and is blocked from re-using those players. It should be both or neither.

It should be what is in the GW rulebook, ironically included with the game on installation.

I'm not a good player and games have been dragged out far longer than they should or even turned-around by this, since I can just keep reviving and warping them back in each turn.

God help the players who don;t even know this and forget to revive/warp in their injured and dead.

Hi,
I used magic sponge on a lost in space player. He moved to the reserves but could not be teleported in.

My understanding of the rules is magic sponge is only supposed to remove KOs. Would be better if UI only allowed you to use it on KO'd players.

Even with the minor flaws, I'm lov'n this game :D

You MUST have the opportunity to send back "lost in the space" players.
It's a bug.

From the Dungeon Bowl rules:
LOST IN SPACE
Teleportation is not an exact science, and there is always a chance that something will go wrong. To represent this, if you roll the number of the pad the player is on, then he is lost in space! For example, if a player was on pad number three and you rolled ‘3’ on the D6, then he would be lost in space. Remove the player from the board and keep him to one side. He can take no further part in the game, although he will be located by the team’s wizards in time for the next game.

So the inability to return the LIS player to the pitch is correct. The ability to Magic Sponge the LIS player from the Dug Out to Reserves is a bug.
