I think big guys should count as specials, (and so should wardancers), and that specials is a 0-2 limit over the entire team; i.e. you could have a WD and an Ogre, or 2WD, or 2 Ogres, but that's it.

I've no idea which positions should count as special though. Witches are specified, but you could argue that runners are thrower types depending on your interpretation; there are plenty of positions you could argue the same for (wardancer/blitzer, gutter runner/catcher, Dwarf Blocker/Lineman etc...). It's an argument which could go on a long time

/agree- I am glad we are getting announcements related to the teams, but still don't understand the rules for creating a team. I was trying to sort through the .pdf and make a dark elf/orc/skaven team. Guess early speculation is just that. No idea what the game is going to actually be like.

If these rules are simply being pulled from the games workshop dungeon bowl pdf then then team building goes like this.

"So, to pick a team, first pick a college, and then pick the players.
Dungeonbowl teams can have up to 16 players, and can include up
to two blitzers, four blockers, four catchers, two throwers, one star
player, and any number of linemen. If you can use players that
don’t fit into any of these categories (Dark Elf Witch Elves, for
example), then you may have up to two of them. As in normal
Blood Bowl, the total cost of a starting team may not exceed
1,000,000 gold pieces. Only star players belonging to one of the
races listed on the Team chart may be used in the team. You can
buy fan factors, cheerleaders, apothecaries, etc, as normal.
All Dungeonbowl teams may buy team re-rolls for 50,000 gold
pieces each."

Now it's quite possible I missed another announcement that special players were going to be more limited, which I'm more or less for since it makes you have to choose those team defining players more carefully. I don't think big guys will or should count against this, since certain colleges give up a 0-2 team just to have them.

If they keep the 0-2 of any non standard positional the same, I'm interested to the implications it would have to the goblins on the Jade and Amethyst college teams. 0-2 pogoer, 0-2 loony, 0-2 fanatic and 0-2 bomber (assuming these secret weapon pieces are all listed as special) could go a decent way towards making these teams able to deal with the madness that is wizard college teams, I was expecting them to just be challenge teams, but with only one inning and double the secret weapons, a goblin team slot might not be a handicap after all.

I'm also interested to see what will happen if they allow for star players to join a roster. Will they gain levels? Will they still have loner? Will there be more of them if we can now officially roster them? As with the special team slots I suppose we'll find out shortly, but there do seem to still be a number of unanswered questions.

Since i don't know if it's possible to roster Deeproot to this team through the halflings, I'm still not sure how useful they can be. Maybe they'll give their hotpot for 100k rule? That could be fairly gross on a team that also sports wood elves.

Well those Dungeonbwol rules were written under the original 3rd edition Bloodbowl rules when you could have up to 4 rostered star players as part of your squad. So I assume they would not apply to crp Dungeonbowl.

I’d be interested to find out if we will still have star players though inducements, I guess so as missing out player and team development would be a real shame.

P.s. I can't see a fanatic being very good in Dungeonbowl, if he hits the wall is that not the same as going into the crowd?

On the computer game, when I set up a line of 3 stand firm players, and the fanatic tries to move into them, he will attack them as normal but won't advance forward. I have no reason to think that walls won't be handled in the same fashion. The fanatic is a slow piece and I have a feeling that will hurt it in dungeon bowl, since quick reactivee playing is so important given there is only a single touchdown. The option however for 0-2 fanatics blowing down crowded hallways (since if there is say a gummed up hallway with 3-4 players in a blob) having the fanatic able to get up to five blocks (with go for its) in such a situation makes up for its unpredictability. Will this situation happen often? I don't know what the meta for dungeon bowl will be. However, I can see some appeal to having fanatics on a team, especially the jade wizards where you have to field at least 3 goblins minimum .

Usually, hitting the wall does do damage to you though - I'd reckon the same would apply if the Fanatic hit it via movement.

If it does I don't have a problem with it. In the pdf I found on specialist games however, there isn't any specific effect for hitting a wall. I would assume for pushing purposes you wouldn't be eligible to move into a wall square, falling prone in the square you were in if you had no open squares available to you. The fanatic probably would simply not move, wasting that square of moment flailing helplessly against the wall. Who knows? Maybe he'll even ignore it and chose randomly between the other two directions.

In that pdf it talks about passing past terrine that pokes out for passing, dealing with pits, teleporters, and treasure chests but that's it besides vague rules for monsters they have already gone on record saying won't be making the game. Since that pdf seems to be where they're gathering a good portion of the rules from, I wouldn't count on walls hurting you to be in the game unless they make an announcement.

The rulebook for bloodbowl on the games workshop site was the only rulebook we got for the bloodbowl computer game. It wouldn't surprise me if the pdf for dungeon bowl is all we get for this. This is assuming they don't have the right to edit anything without games workshop consent. Since they mention specifically games workshop allowing them to add a loner rule restriction, it's somewhat up in the air how much room there is for changes, even if they are simply reintroducing rules form previous editions.

As with most everything I've been speculating on, we'll see sooner or later.

Just occurred to me that Halfling Treemen don't have the Loner skill. That means three Treemen on this team, yes?

Depends if Treemen are counted as blockers than yes, but I assume that the Treemen do not fall into any specific category. I would imply from the rules that you would only be allowed to take 2 Treemen and would not be allowed a third regardless of the exclusion of Loner. Then you can still have your Ogre depending if they plan on clumping Big Guys as a category.
