It won't work with Steam, since you download the game from the Cyanide website (seems they're using GamerPlanet this time - not a bad choice).

I wouldn't preorder it on a hunch that that serial would work on Steam - you'll just end up annoyed if it doesn't work. Either preorder, and don't use Steam, or wait for it to be released on Steam, so you know it'll work.

True but I have pre-ordered it and it would be 'nice' if it worked on steam as well. I certainly wont be annoyed if it doesn't work on steam but Cyanide are publishing the game themselves so have the chance to do things that Focus would never do...

However, note that it isn't released on Steam until after the actual release date, and that the Cyanide store would then have to provide Steam codes, which won't actually exist yet, for the game to work on Steam. Given that, plus the fact that the non-Steam versions of both BB and LE couldn't be activated on Steam, and the evidence would suggest that copies not purchased on Steam would not be able to be activated on Steam.

Either way, I prefer not having it on Steam - means I don't have to wait a day or two for Steam to patch it, rather than just downloading the patches as soon as they're released for non-Steam versions.

Other games have serial numbers that work on steam (obviously once it's released on steam) - perhaps cyanide have had the forethought to do that as well

As for Steam, yes, the way it updates is really quite rubbish as (the way I understand it) it doesn't actually 'patch' the files it just replaces them which can lead to huge and unnecessarily long updates.

Nevertheless, no answer from Cyanide but Milly at least tries to be helpful and you throw it back in his face. And he does have certain insights from his time as a Focus admin over on the BB Forums as well as being a generally switched on guy.
