I know how to counter it, but it doesn't mean it's balanced.

Edit : Thx for the correction ;)

I'd agree with evilstein that the death roller is broken without 'secret weapons' send off being enforced (is that a bug or a design feature?). There's just no 'reliability downside' to it as there is with all big guys.

It is unbalanced but I think it depends on the game your playing.

Against someone without one, yes I agree, some kind of 'Stall' roll would be good considering Ogres have bonehead, Yhetti have Animal and Trees take root. All of the above apart from Take Root are recoverable, unless the said tree gets knocked down and his roots snapped off lol. So a send-off or fouling penalty is a bit overkill I think.

Against someone with a Roller, it's a different story. All the games I've played they either end up facing off against each other or staying apart for a slaughter fest on each other. Either way it's in balance. It's even interesting watching them jockey for position and attempting dangerous moves, which for a different class is easy...but you try blocking/blitzing with a roller next to a trap...you know the results lol, drunk driver in the drink/pit/lava lol...and that to me adds to the charm of the game imho.

THIS IS DUNGEONBOWL...not Blood Bowl, there's a lot of players who have come from BB and don't like the way DB plays...and change this, thats not right. DB is about FUN and Chaos and pure random chance...not about expertly taking into account every stat and skill and then complaining when it doesnt conform to the way BB plays.

In BB you pray to Nuffle that the ball comes your way so you can perform 'X' killer strategy...in DB, we pray to Nuffle just to get out of the Dungeon alive, or at least with only one limb lost

If you don't like DB, think it should be more like BB...then go play BB, no-ones making you play it tbh.

+1 Teutatis

However I think there is one thing to consider - the DB rules we are playing were written pre-CRP/LRB6, so they don't quite "fit" in all cases. Frankly I can live with this for the reasons stated above.

Coach Jester wrote:i personally always thought the roller should have a "engine stall" skill, at the start of every action roll of 1 on a d 6 cant do a thing... like bone head
or better on a 1-3 it stalls :D

add the stall skill, add the stall skill

jbecks wrote:I like the idea of a similar roll to bonehead with rolling a 1 before any action and the engine stalls.

yep only works if you play with the same team.. boring... i like to see all the teams play not just the dwarf ones
so fix this please or we will only see one type of team
I love both BB and DB but the roller is the ONLY big guy without a bone head/really stupid/wild animal/take root sort of roll and i think it should be changed for BB as well (who knows maybe Jarvis just forget to add it or its a miss print, has any1 asked him?)
i added "engine stall" to my TT BB and DB and it made it more fun and chaotic for EVERY ONE

Teutatis wrote:If you don't like DB, think it should be more like BB...then go play BB, no-ones making you play it tbh.
not needed or helpful.. in your own post you make my point for me and that is the only way to balance a game vs a dwarf team with death roller is for you to have a dwarf team with death roller   what of the other teams? why have bone head on an ogre then? or really stupid on a troll?
remove all or give all the same 1 in 6 chance
this is not about balance as teams have different skills and structures and thats a good thing.. its about fair and if you had a dwarf team not alowed to have a roller you would think its not fair other teams have a big guy... i would argue this same point if treemen didnt have take root or minotaurs didn't have wild animal... it would give that team an added advantage that should not be there

The difference between a Death Roller and other BG's is that a roller is not an animal, nor is a Dwarf dumb. Sure if the Death Roller would start out with General skills (read: Block) then I'd agree to add something like a stall weakness.
:?: The thing is that if people already are of the opinion that Death Rollers are too powerful how about Mummies, Vampires (Str4, Dex4 + Hypnotic gaze), Werewolfs (Av8, MV8, claws) Flesh Golems etc?
And how about a Minatour with tentacles? As long as you don't move it that often Dumb Animal isn't even a weakness.
The same goes for a Beast of Nurgle?
 Compared to these BG's who either start with Tentacles or can get it lateer on a Roller has to move otherwise he is a complete waste of TV.

  in the first place your right its not an animal nor is a dwarf dumb (though 1 could argue that) but the thing he drives (you know the thing he is sitting on) has an engine and engines break down and stall from time to time

as for give it general skill   do any other BIG GUY start with general skill? answer is NO
and as for your list of other players vamps have blood lust and are one the harder teams to play... have you even played the other teams?... and at any rate as i said before this is not about balance it was for me at any rate about fair... he is the only big guy without a 1 in 6 per turn of a no action roll
beast of nergle btw has really stupid
and with a mino (who has wild animal) would need a double roll to get Tentacles (i think)
and any big guy with a double roll could get block ;) even the death roller

your only valid point could be the Mummy but as a hole that team has its balance with having weak line men skeletons with av7 regen and TS.. unlike a dwarf team where lineman are av9 and start with block tackle and TS and the dwarf costs only 10 more (i think its 50 for dwarf) give me a break

please dont look at this with the "1 eyed dwarf " approach ... though i think dwarfs are OP even without a roller i dont mind... but the roller on top of it all is a tad way over the top

TrickyD wrote:Compared to these BG's who either start with Tentacles or can get it lateer on a Roller has to move otherwise he is a complete waste of TV.

 my point is IF any big guy wants to move they have to make a roll... the roller on the other hand has no risk so can always do so

:) That is why I wrote 'IF Death Rollers would start out with General Skills......'

Coach Jester wrote:and as for your list of other players vamps have blood lust and are one the harder teams to play
LoL which is why my vampire team ratio is 3 thralls for each vamp and at least 1RR per vamp.

Coach Jester" wrote:beast of nergle btw has really stupid

And as I had pointed out that if you only move him when it is absolutely necessary Tentacles circumvents being really stupid. The only time Tentacles do not work is when you failed the really stupid roll.
So to simplify it: Beasts of Nergle (or anything else with Tentacles) are still usefull while not having been moved while a Roller who doesn't move is a waste of TV.

Coach Jester wrote:please dont look at this with the "1 eyed dwarf " approach ...
:D Trust me I haven't, but I guess you must believe that I do since I disagree with ya, right?

Coach Jester wrote:though i think dwarfs are OP even without a roller i dont mind... but the roller on top of it all is a tad way over the top
:| Only if you completely ignore their complete lack of MV and AG.
