That's great, and we're doing that same thing at LABBL (http:\\labbl.unionenglish.net), and it's manageable with a small group of people who all know each other.
The problem comes with a larger group, or a group of relative strangers. There is nothing stopping someone playing additional games with their team between league matches, and therefore gaining an advantage. There is also no ability to reset a match if a disconnect happens, etc. Both of these would be fixed with either a proper league system or the ability to use the LAN game type with custom teams.
